Whoa! Great problem solving Michelle! I got the vertical waves by switching the x and y: x=sin(y) for example. Sure it’s not a function (of x), but desmos does a great job with implicit graphs.
What a great problem. It allows the students to investigate they sine function and be creative. The students can play with sine functions and discover how changing different values in the function can change the graph of the function. After playing with the sine graph they need to figure out how to make the waves vertical which gives another investigation for the students. This is a great investigation involving an advanced math activity.

considering just got into desmos recently, am pretty happy with this 3-line solution. it’s a modification of a Milkdrop2 project was working on earlier.
